[ About the Speaker: Thomas Harbøll Schrøder ]
Thomas Harbøll Schrøder is a doctoral student at Divisions of History of Science, Technology and Environment at KTH Royal Institute of Technology in Stockholm, Sweden.

He has a background in linguistics, Science and Technology Studies (STS), and environmental history. Currently, he is in his final year and finalising a thesis on the historical development of modern wind energy. The thesis is part of the larger research project Study of the Planetary Human-Environment Relationship (SPHERE) led by Professor Sverker Sörlin. The SPHERE project examines the history of global environmental governance - how the environment since World War II and until today has become an increasingly important issue for decision makers around the world. Within this wider project, Thomas’ thesis examines wind energy as an energy source that has risen dramatically in use globally during the last few decades often based on the idea that it is an environmentally friendly energy source. The thesis has a special focus on Denmark as a pioneering country for wind energy and Taiwan as a first mover for offshore wind in the Asia Pacific region.

Before commencing his PhD, Thomas worked for professor of physics Minn-Tsong Lin at National Taiwan University in a cross-disciplinary research project on the Nordic welfare states. He also held a position as adjunct lecturer of English at Chung Yuan Christian University and as English tutor at Lancaster University. This fall and spring, Thomas is a visiting scholar at National Chengchi University.
