Supporting Measures

Approximately 60% of the total full-time faculty in NCCU hold their highest academic credentials from English-speaking countries.

In order to cultivate more excellent EMI instructors and improve EMI teaching capabilities, the following strategies will be adopted:

1. EMI Support Unit

Inviting experienced EMI teaching professionals to deliver training sessions that cover various aspects of EMI instruction to elevate EMI teachers’ abilities. These workshops will include curriculum design and transformation, language conversion techniques, leading class discussions and more.

Through workshops and keynote speeches, we will be able to encourage professional development and knowledge exchange in EMI teaching and learning, enhance EMI swiftly and effectively, and expand the scope of our curriculum.

2. EMI Teacher Community

A space for EMI instructors to discuss and learn from each other, address challenges encountered in EMI courses, discuss different pedagogies and more. This ultimately will enhance the quality of EMI instruction.

3. EMI Teaching Consultation

Provide individual consultations to teachers and address their specific needs in EMI instruction. EMI instructors will determine the issues to be explored, and we will provide an outer perspective, support for a plan of action, and suggest additional resources.

4. Awards programs

An awards program to recognize outstanding instructors who demonstrate excellence in EMI teaching. Resources will also be invested in other aspects such as EMI teaching assistantships and teaching materials subsidies.

5. Faculty Mobility Programs

NCCU also has programs to facilitate instructors' global mobility. These programs are expected to enhance faculty members’ EMI teaching experience as well as to sustain their international connections. This helps attract, retain and sustain research collaborations that are mutually beneficial to faculty members and participating institutions.

6. Recruit and Train EMI TAs

Engage both international and domestic students with good English proficiency to serve as EMI TAs to provide better teaching support and improve students' learning outcomes.
